Our Classes

OCC Preparatory Symphony Orchestra

This after-school program is composed of intermediate and experienced student players with at least 3-4 years of experience with their instrument who wish to deepen their knowledge of music, and develop their artistic skills alongside peers. The program concentrates on advanced technical and expressive skills in chamber and full ensemble settings. Students receive weekly group instruction with emphasis on technique development, musical expression, and collaborative playing.

Public concerts will be given to enhance learning and reward accomplishment. This will include opportunities to play for senior communities and earn volunteering hours for community service.

The ensemble will meet for sessions on Wednesdays from 6-8pm, running from January 17th through May 15th (with no session on January 24th and March 20th), and culminate with a performance showcase in May 22nd.

The program is led by Katherine Roselli, who began her career playing the violin while living in Poland. After moving to the U.S. at age 16, she played in high school and university orchestras.  Katherine pursued her music studies at Mannes College of Music under Barbara Krakauer and Kean University under Sharon Roffman. She performed in orchestras and summer camps affiliated with the Paris Conservatory of Music in France. Katherine currently teaches orchestra in Toms River school district and leads the Kean Preparatory Symphony Orchestra.

Barnegat Bay Master Naturalist Course

Do you enjoy learning about the plants, animals, ecology, and traditions of the Barnegat Bay and sharing what you’ve learned with others? Join us this spring for a training course to become a Barnegat Bay Master Naturalist volunteer.

The course consists of both virtual classroom sessions and field-based learning experiences about a wide range of wildlife and natural resource topics specific to the Barnegat Bay and its watershed. During the outdoor field sessions, you will learn from experienced naturalists and scientists while exploring both bay and upland habitats at various locations throughout Ocean County. The course also includes training in the skills volunteers need to help educate others about the bay and its watershed.

Course participants must have access to the internet for the virtual classroom sessions and be willing to drive to locations throughout Ocean County for the field sessions. Field trip activities will involve moderate physical activity, including hiking, kayaking, and seining in locations such as Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center, Island Beach State Park, and Bass River State Forest to name a few. Field trips will be rain or shine, unless there is extreme weather or otherwise specified.

After registering, course participants will receive a detailed schedule of session topics and field trip meeting locations.

Sessions will be 50% in-person, and 50% virtual classrooms:

  • Virtual Classroom Sessions meet from 9am to 11am: May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and June 5, 12, 19, 26.

  • In-Person Field Sessions meet from 9am to 12pm: May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and June 7, 14, 21, 28.

This course is for adults, ages 18 and up.

Full Course

Co-Ed Soccer Clinic

Our program provides the finest instruction and demonstration of fundamental soccer skills at all positions. We do not allow metal cleats. In the event of severe weather soccer camp will be held in the OCC gymnasium.

REQUIRED: Campers should bring cleats or turf shoes, sneakers, shin guards, sun block, and a snack each day. A water bottle will be provided to all campers, as well as access to a water cooler.

For ages 8-14.

Co-Ed Sports Camp

Our one-week session allows for campers to experience multiple sports and activities each day, providing opprotunities to gain a basic understanding of scrimmages, techniques, and skills across different sports. Local high school and college coaches conduct the program.

REQUIRED: Campers should bring a snack and sneakers. A water bottle will be provided to all campers, as well as access to a water cooler.

For ages 8-14.

Co-Ed Tennis

Campers learn the fundamentals of proper grips, body position,and more. We work on rules, etiquette, and score keeping. We practice technical skills of hand-eye coordination, drills, ground strokes and the serve.

REQUIRED: Campers should bring a tennis racket, white sole sneakers, sunblock, and a hat each day. A water bottle will be provided to all campers, as well as access to a water cooler.

For ages 8-14.

Music Camp

The Summer Music Camp at Ocean County College offers students an opportunity to explore the multi-faceted world of classical music under the guidance of skilled and experienced instructors. We provide students with an intense performance-based music-making experience focused on master classes, guided practice, and ensemble experience. Students will also receive daily group classes in music theory and history, opening a window to the great composers and their masterworks while covering concepts essential for developing their own musicianship.

Students will be divided into groups based on age and skill level, and will be instructed by Brian Gilmore and Katherine Roselli.

A native of Toms River, Brian Gilmore holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in piano performance. As a lecturer at Ocean County College, he oversees the applied music program, has revitalized the classical recital series, and regularly collaborates with faculty, students, and area musicians. Through his work as an educator and performer, he aims to nurture musical awareness and understanding in the community, while ensuring that students with a desire to excel in music are afforded that opportunity.

Secret Agent Lab - Funky Forensics

Recreate the scene of a crime using schematics. Use science to connect the dots and help sniff out the suspects in this hands-on investigation into the science of sleuthing!

Launching with Legends

Anyone can be an inventor! Discover the work of da Vinci, Edison, Tesla, and Benjamin Franklin and use what you learn to invent solutions to everyday problems. You’ll prepare a proposal and receive a patent certificate for your very own invention. Build your own catapult, and even launch projectiles off a large trebuchet! You’ll bring home countless cool inventions and a squadron of paper airplanes the Wright brothers would be proud of!

For ages 8-12.

Campers must wear sneakers each day.
