Anyone can be an inventor! Discover the work of da Vinci, Edison, Tesla, and Benjamin Franklin and use what you learn to invent solutions to everyday problems. You’ll prepare a proposal and receive a patent certificate for your very own invention. Build your own catapult, and even launch projectiles off a large trebuchet! You’ll bring home countless cool inventions and a squadron of paper airplanes the Wright brothers would be proud of!

Secret Agent Lab - Funky Forensics

Step into the shoes of a detective — uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Using your observational skills, collect evidence and analyze the clues left behind.  Recreate the scene of a crime using schematics. Use science to connect the dots and help sniff out the suspects in this hands-on investigation into the science of sleuthing!

For ages 8-12.

Rev up your R.V. for a cross country STEAM adventure! You and your STEAM Team will engineer your way from sea to shining sea from the Statue of Liberty to the Golden Gate Bridge from the Hawaiian Volcanoes to the Floridian Theme Parks to an open road of exciting pit-stops in between. This imagination-fueled excursion across the USA promises to have campers smiling from coast to coast!

Become a master of illusion by learning the techniques used by Hollywood masters to create FX magic.

Do you love movies with exciting special effects, like The Avengers, Star Wars, or Harry Potter? Amaze your friends by swinging a lightsaber or blasting fire from your hands and becoming a master of the illusions used by Hollywood artists to create visual effects magic. Whether you want to enhance your YouTube videos or create a cool scene to amaze your friends; this class teaches the tools you need. Experiment with visual effects as you learn the dynamics of camera angles, editing, graphic layering, and sound effects. Then watch as your new creations take your channel content to the next level! Student projects are available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams.

This Kids-Choice Challenge Island adventure puts a 100% Screen-Free STEAM twist on popular video games from designing your own STEAMio Carts to building Fort Island shelters to adopting adorable Island Blo,c pets to taking on the freezing and fiery biomes of Mine Island to creating retro-Inspired games like Space Aliens Aracade. You and your STEAM Team will swap game consoles for creativity and joysticks for ingenuity and imagination as you take on Islands of STEAM challenges created with game-loving kids in mind!

Grab your pickaxe and dig into the most exciting summer camp on the block! We'll swap computers for creativity and mousepads for imagination as our STEAM Teams teleport into action-packed Mine Island hotspots. You'll build shelters, create crafting tables and gomining for materials - and be sure to watch out for those pesky mobs! It's no wonder our massively popular Mine Island Camp is a Challenge Island Kids Choice favorite every year!

NASA STEM Explorers

Developed in partnership with NASA, our campers will think and act like NASA innovators during this hands-on program inspired by the NASA OPTIMUS PRIME Research Challenge (NASA OPSPARC). Use creative and collaborative skills to design a mission patch, train like an astronaut, build a Mars rover and solve real-world engineering problems. How might you use space suit cooling tubes be used to solve a problem here on Earth?

NASA Journey to Outer Space

Take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena. Create a comet and build your own Mad Science rocket and participate in a real NASA style rocket launch! Campers will take home additional NASA activities to complete at home! Mad Science is the ONLY organization licensed by NASA to use these activities for Summer Camps!

Dive into making sprites move around and animate in a video game!

Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a storyline. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own game. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams.

Create your own Pokémon®-style cards, figurines, toys, & more!

Calling all PokeMasters who want to be the designers of the future! Use your Pokemon imagination and bring your ideas to life. Begin by creating your own digital Pokemon-style custom playing card game. Progress onto designing action figures, jewelry, and toys in professional-level modeling software. Learn how to prepare a model for 3D printing and create a design portfolio to showcase your work! No prior experience is necessary and 3D designs will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams.
